*The surrogate virus 229E /ATCC VR-740 is a virus that is commercially available and mimics the SARS-CoV-2 virus (responsible for development of the disease COVID-19). The test protocol is based on the ASTM E1052 Standard with considerations for use of ozone and was completed in our biosafety level 2 lab conducted by an MIT PhD.  DISCLAIMER: The Enozo Aqueous Ozone Spray Bottle (also branded O3waterworksâ„¢) is classified as a pesticidal device under the EPA regulations. It has demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to SARS-CoV-2 (the virus causing COVID-19) on hard non-porous surfaces employing test methods recognized as scientifically valid in the field. However, it is important to note that unlike chemical pesticides, EPA does not routinely review the safety or efficacy of pesticidal devices, and therefore cannot confirm whether, or under what circumstances, such products might be effective against the spread of COVID-19.

Active Diamond Electrolytic Technology

• Water from the reservoir is sent into a chamber where it passes through a solid diamond plate and comes into contact with a direct electrical current. Here a chemical reaction occurs that splits the strong bond that holds the two atoms of ordinary oxygen together, and creates free oxygen atoms.

• These free atoms immediately seek to bond with oxygen molecules, which then forms ozone.

FAQ

What is Ozone?

Ozone is a naturally-occurring inorganic molecule made up of three oxygen atoms. In nature, ozone is formed mainly by sunlight or lightning, which causes an ordinary oxygen molecule (O2) to join with an unstable oxygen atom through electrolysis or ultraviolet radiation, becoming ozone (O3.) Ozone comes in two forms – gaseous (as a gas) and aqueous (in water.) It occurs in nature, but can also be man-made.

Ozone in the stratosphere is created naturally to protect life on Earth from the sun’s harmful UV rays. In the troposphere (layer closest to earth), it’s produced by chemical reactions of nitrogen (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These reactions happen when man-made emissions from factories, cars, and other human activities react in the presence of sunlight.

How is Ozone capable of sanitizing?

By nature, ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent, meaning it has the power to oxidize or cause chemical change through oxygen. When ozone comes into contact with harmful bacteria, it attaches to and deteriorates its cell wall, killing it completely.

What does Ozone smell like?

You’ll probably recall a fresh, clean scent in the air after you walk outside after a big storm. Well, that’s ozone. Mother Nature creates ozone during thunderstorms to oxidize the air.

Is Ozone safe?

Ozone is an EPA approved antimicrobial, disinfectant, and sanitizer that has been used worldwide for over a century. For all its inherent power, it is perfectly safe when used in proper low concentrations.

You probably first encountered the word ‘ozone’ in 8th-grade science class or heard about it on the news. It can often come with a bad rap. The truth is, ozone does a world of good for us here on Earth. It protects us from harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun and purifies water.

As with many things in life, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Emissions from man-made sources like cars and VOC’s can interact negatively with the atmosphere, causing higher levels of gaseous ozone closer to the Earth, which can be harmful to humans.

Ozone is highly regulated by the organizations you trust. Ozone is one of only three groups of antimicrobial agents registered by the EPA for public health use (the other two being antibiotics and antiseptics). It is generally regarded as safe (GRAS) by the FDA and is recognized as safe and highly effective by the National Sanitation Foundation.

What Pathogens can Ozone kill?

Ozone can kill 99.9% of common bacteria in 30 seconds including but not limited to:

  • E. coli
  • Salmonella
  • Listeria
  • Legionella
  • MRSA
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Bordetella bronchiseptica
  • Enterobacter aerogenes
  • Klebsiella pneumoniae

Does the FDA approve the use of Ozone?

Municipal Water Plants & Bottled Water Industries:

Ozone is utilized as a disinfecting agent at municipal water treatment plants as well as in the bottled water industry. It is approved by the FDA and by the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) as an antimicrobial agent.

Treatment, Storage & Food Processing of Foods:

The FDA formally approved the use of ozone as an Antimicrobial Agent for the Treatment, Storage and Processing of Foods in Gas and Aqueous Phases. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA/FSIS) approved the use of ozone for contact with meats and poultry, including raw product to fresh cooked and prior to packaging. In addition to direct contact of foods, ozone also can be applied to food processing equipment and non-food contact surfaces as part of a food company’s sanitation efforts.

Public and Personal Swimming Pool Treatments: Across the U.S., ozone generators are used to sanitize pools instead of chlorine because it is a powerful oxidizer and works 3,000 times faster than chlorine and uses no harmful chemicals.

Is Enozo independently tested?

All of our efficacy claims are independently tested by 3rd party laboratories and Aqueous Ozone is GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) by the FDA. The Sanitizing Spray Bottle as an EPA established number of 089373-MA-001.

The following tests were performed Using Modified AOAC 961.02 Protocol All testing done at Lapuck Laboratories in Canton, Mass., following the directions for use in the O3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle manual. All tests were done on non-porous stainless steel surfaces.

Our Aqueous Ozone Sanitizing Spray Bottle* has achieved a 99.9% virus reduction within 30 seconds against the commercial testing surrogate for Human Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes the CoVid-19 disease). The Enozo Spray Bottle was tested against surrogate 229E/ATCC VR-740† on hard non-porous surfaces using scientifically recognized testing methods. Download the whole study here.

How does the Enozo Sprayer work?

Our spray bottle makes ozone in water, from water. It creates ozonated water through a patented process we call Active Diamond Electrolytic Process Technology, or ADEPT for short. With ADEPT, water from the reservoir is sent into a chamber where it passes through a solid diamond plate and comes into contact with a direct electrical current. Here a chemical reaction occurs that splits the strong bond that holds the two atoms of ordinary oxygen together, and creates free oxygen atoms. These free atoms immediately seek to bond with oxygen molecules, which then forms ozone. The bottle then sprays the ozonated water through the nozzle. The sprayed water can kill 99.9% of most harmful pathogens such as E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria, Legionella, MRSA, and more when used as directed.

Why is the Enozo better than other sanitizers?

The Enozo K100 spray bottle only uses one ingredient – normal tap water. Unlike most sanitizers, our spray bottle doesn’t use harmful chemicals, dyes, or perfumes. Many ingredients used in typical sanitizers are known allergens and can cause irritation. Even some products that are marketed as ‘green’ or ‘natural’ may have harmful ingredients inside. That’s because current regulations do not require manufacturers to list all ingredients on the labels.

Our spray bottle dispenses aqueous ozone at OSHA-safe levels, meaning is harmless to smell and touch. It is capable of destroying 99.9% of the most harmful bacteria on the planet – like Salmonella, Listeria, Legionella, STAPH, MRSA, and Influenza A, to name a few. It sanitizes fast and leaves zero residue behind.

How long is the Ozone Active once sprayed?

Ozone sprayed from the bottle is active for 5 minutes. Ozone (O3) is a very unstable molecule. Once it is done killing contaminants, it reverts back to oxygen (O2). Every time you pull the trigger, ozone is created on demand, and the five-minute clock starts.
